Communication with PodcastsPodcasts are a great tool for communication. They are relatively easy to create, require little monetary investment, but with web 2.0 tools like sound cloud, provide the opportunity for a wide audience. For example, in this series of podcasts, I am able to share ideas about making classes more engaging by making them more like a game. The podcast addresses the impact gamifying can have; how to change grades, grouping, and seating; as well as how to change the focus from spoon feeding to feedback. Because I am not an expert in the concept, I can provide a novice perspective of how to get started, yet point to experts and those who have more experience.
Another advantage of a podcast over a video, is the ability to listen while multitasking. Many teachers listen to podcasts while communicating or doing mundane activities like entering grades. As a professional leader, creating podcasts to inspire, motivate or as a job aid can be just what a staff needs to hear to help the reach for the next level of achievement. Creating and using podcasts regularly in the school site, will also give teachers the confidence to implement podcasts into their classes. Podcasts are a fantastic method for practicing reading and language skills. |
